Niigata sightseeing

Dear participants and followers to 「The 52nd US-Japan Mycobacteria Panel Meeting 2018 in Niigata, Japan」.

 Here is information of sightseeing of Niigata.



The recommend Okura hotel is located banks of Shinano river, the longest liver in Japan.



Near the Okura hotel, you can see Niigata city from 2 sightseeing tower, Toki messe and Media Ship.  These include museums.  And shopping places are around there.

Sado is a fascinating island.  You can go there by 1 hour trip with Jetfoil from Niigata harbor near to Toki messe.  There are traditional Nohgaku and hot springs.




Niigata; “gata” means lagoon.  There are 16 “gata” in Niigata city.

In winter, swans come from Siberia for procreation.

There are old Japanese houses (Saito ke bettei & Sakaguchi Ango-Kazeno Yakata) located near to the meeting place.



Northern Culture Museum is far (1 hour trip by bus) but it is also nice old house.



Yahiko shrine is also good and there are hot spring inns too.



Niigata Furumachi is one of the three biggest GEIKO City as well as Kyoto and Tokyo.



You can reach to Naeba, a major ski place by 1 hour trip woth Shikansen (Echigo Yuzawa station).



The mountain side of Niigata is one of heaviest snowfall area in Japan.

You can see 2-3 meters of snow in mountain side towns, such as Yuzawa, Uonuma, and Tokamachi.
